How this is calculated

Entry rate 0.045% without the code, 0.0432% with it. Exit rate 0.045% and 0.0432%.

Rate = tier rate × (1 − staking discount) × (1 − 4% referral discount). This follows the fee formula Hyperliquid publishes for developers.

Not included: maker rebates, aligned quote assets, funding payments, spread and slippage. Fees are charged on position size, not on your margin.

Two worked examples

A $10,000 position, market in and market out, tier 0. Taker on both legs is 0.045% × $20,000 = $9.00. With the code the rate is 0.0432%, so you pay $8.64 and save $0.36.

A $50,000 position, limit entry and market exit, Bronze staking. Bronze takes 10% off. The maker entry costs 0.0135% and the taker exit 0.0405%, so the round trip is $27.00. With the code it is $25.92, a saving of $1.08.

What the calculator leaves out

Trading fees are only part of the cost. Funding is paid every hour between longs and shorts. Spread and slippage depend on the market and your order size. Moving funds on and off Hyperliquid can cost gas or a withdrawal fee. Maker rebates, which pay high-volume makers instead of charging them, are not modeled.

Questions

Are Hyperliquid fees charged on margin or on position size?
On position size. A $1,000 deposit at 10x leverage opens a $10,000 position, and the fee is a percentage of the $10,000.
Is there a fee to open and to close a position?
Yes. Opening and closing are two separate trades, and each is charged as maker or taker depending on the order type. A round trip with market orders pays the taker rate twice.
How much can the referral code save in total?
The 4% discount covers the first $25M of volume. At the base perps taker rate of 0.045%, that is $450. Spot and some HIP-3 markets cost more per trade, so they can save more. Higher tiers and staking lower the rate, so the saving goes down with them.
Does funding count as a fee?
No. Funding is paid between longs and shorts every hour, and it is not a trading fee. The referral discount does not change it.
